The
Little Princess
15" x 12" x 9", Edition of 24
Bronze Sculpture
"This piece was sculpted as an homage to the genius of one of the forerunners of modern art, the Spanish painter Diego Velázquez.
This little princess was the central figure in Velázquez's 1656 painting The Maids of Honour, or Las Meninas, and the daughter of the young Queen of my bronze sculpture, Visions of Velázquez.
This painting of the Spanish Court has inspired countless artists over the past five hundred years to create works as a way to understand the divine spark that led to this masterpiece.
It has been described as Velázquez's supreme achievement, a highly self-conscious, calculated demonstration of what painting could achieve, and perhaps the most searching comment ever made on the possibilities of the easel painting. The brush is a nod to the incredible fluidity of the master's paint strokes."
